Walk your site with a tape measure and sketch the areas you want to cover. Measure only the ground that will receive material.
Rectangles and circles
For a rectangle, measure length and width. For a circle, measure the full diameter through the center, not the radius. If you already know the area, choose Known area.
Irregular beds
Split an L-shaped bed into two rectangles that do not overlap, then add both to the calculator. For curved edges, use smaller approximate sections. Subtract planted or uncovered regions from your measurements before entering a known area.
Depth matters
Take several depth measurements if the ground is uneven. Each calculator area has its own depth. Enter feet and inches in US mode or meters and centimeters in metric mode. Changing units converts your dimensions rather than reinterpreting the same numbers.
General guidance: adapt tasks to your local climate, plants and soil. Confirm product specifications with your supplier.
